Donna,
We are sorry to say we have had to cancel our cruise. The Oncotype DX test on daughter Linda's breast cancer tumor showed that she was at high risk for future re-occurence of cancer at this or other locations. For this reason, she is being placed on an aggressive chemotherapy program starting this coming Wednesday. She is staying with us in our care, so there is no way we could go on the cruise. This program will continue for three months and be followed by radiation treatment, thus our attendance at future rallies this year will be doubtful.
This was the first cruise we booked and bought trip insurance, so we hope to get most of our money back.
Your prayers will be appreciated.

Hi Cat,

Sorry we will not be at the December rally. We are performing that weekend at our church's musical production of the "Boar's Head Christmas" with a setting of medieval England. It is the 10th annual production and we think our last as participants

We just learned this week that our daughter Linda here in Gainesville has early stage breast cancer and will have surgery on November 23. The complication is that it may be the type cancer that spreads and they may have to go to chemo. They won't know until after surgery

You thoughts and prayers will be appreciated.

8/20/10 Jeanne Slaten

Here is an update from JR
   Cat

Hi Guys,

So far this has been a roller coaster ride. But I think, we maybe finally arriving at the unloading platform. This is a kind of goofy comparison but that is the way it feels. After a week in the hospital and another week in the rehab hospital, we were able to bring Jeanne home. Wheeee! Within twenty four hours her pain was uncontrollable and her doctors told us to bring her back to the first hospital. They ordered an x-ray and then a MRI. These revealed a mass pressing on some nerves in her back. I thought it may be an overlooked tool left behind but they assured me it wasn't. They operated on her again the next morning. The mass revealed itself as a blood clot pressing on nerves in her spine. Once the clot was removed the pain subsided to a bearable level. After two more days of observation and regulating meds, we were allowed to come home again. Wheeeee!
We are home now and Jeanne is feeling much better. We have to give her antibiotics twice a day through an IV line. Denise (my daughter) and I feel like real IV nurses. At this point, Jeanne feels pretty good and is determined to recover on schedule. The motorcycle carrot is still dangling. Wow, I feel much better. Wheeeeee!

8/2/2010 Jeanne Slaten

I received the following update on Jeanne Slaten.
Please keep her in your prayers.
   Thanks
    Cat

Hi Guys,

Jeanne had extensive back surgery last Thursday. The two Dr's that operated on her said that the seven hour procedure went well and that they acheived the results they wanted. She will be on limited movement restrictions for the next six weeks. After six months she will be allowed to resume her normal activities. Jeanne's incentive is a new motorcycle in the garage and her goal is to ride by the end of January. We should be home by the middle of the week if she keeps improving.
Jeanne said to tell everyone hi and that she plans to make the International in September. She also wants to thank everyone for the thoughts, concerns and prayers before and during surgery. Don't quit now, we still have a ways to go.
Thank all of you (y'all),

JR

11/29/09   I received the following email about  Christine Bond.  Although they have not been active in a while but we have fond memories of her and she will be missed.

Christine passed over on Nov 22. Anyone that knew her was aware of how she had fought illnesses for years. I think she got tired of the fight. She had the heart and respiratory failure. The EMT's resuscitated her but it was too late.

I know we hadn't been active in the club, but we did cherish fond memories of our association with everyone.
We had fun doing our rally in the Hobo theme.
 regards to all.

8/17/09                                                                                                  GREAT NEWS!!  JOFF IS GETTING MARRIED

I received the following email from Joff

Greetings to All,

My new Stimulus Plan that I have been working hard of for the last few months is a great one for me.  No direction from Washington; no town hall meetings; on government funding but lots of pay back. Ready for this?  I AM GETTING MARRIED.  No date yet but I do have an "I will" and she has a ring. Her name is Sally Jacob originally from the Detroit area now living in Satsuma which is a small village about 10 mi from Palatka, graduate from Wayne State, a 31 yr retiree from GM, Catholic, Florida Master Gardener, has all of her teeth, can enunciate and doesn't like beer very much (I have to work some on that). A blond, but does out distance me by a couple of grade points. She has a Scottie dog which does like me and a African Gray Parrot which doesn't.  Bubba, my cat says that he will help me with that problem.  I know you will lover her too and welcome her into our family of friends.

As it stands now we plan to sell both of our homes and have found a place around the corner from me which size wise is in between what we have now but on the river. Lots of guest accommodations.

I will keep you informed.

You can pick yours selves of the floor now.

Subject: Re: Bill Ring

I received the following emails from Jacque' Ring about Bill Ring.  Please send cards and put him in your prayers.
     Thank You,
      Cat (Sunshine lady)

Sorry we missed everyone at Brooksville.  Bill had been in the hospital for 18 days.  He got home this past Saturday the 7th.  He is doing fine.  Just has to build his strength and stamina back up.  Hope to be seeing everyone before long.

Bill and Jacque' Ring

Bill had an intestinal problem that required surgery. His system took a long time to recover from both the problem and the effects and complications of surgery.  Really too lengthy to go into detail.  He is home and building up his strength and stamina.  He went without food most of the time and lost some weight, but mostly strength and stamina.  Is on the road to recovery.

Hi Cat,
Thanks for the card, and the concern. I suppose you could say I'm feeling pretty good concedering bladder cancer removal earlier this year and finding out that I have prosetate cancer that will be dealt with with a new procedure called Cyberknife. At the monent I'm just waiting for them to call and tell me THEY are ready.
As for Alice, she is getting stronger every day.She had major heart surgery earlier this year, a valve replacement. I tell everyone she had a valve job. Please keep us in your prayers. We are going to try to attend the Christmas rally, hope to see you there.
We get most of our mail at alwa2som@bellsouth.net, if you want to make a note of it.

Cheers, Wayland (Bob) Martin

10/9/08                        Prayers are needed for Harleigh Texter

I have attached a note from Barbara about his progress.

Thank you very much for card and everything.  I expect he'll be in intensive care about a month.  Results of Gallium scan on Friday.  Medical team keeps wanting to put him on ventilator or sign Do Not Resuscitate Order -- i.e. choose to die.  He did neither.
  I feel so helpless....

10-5-08  I'm requesting prayers for my niece Jessica some of you met her Feb. 2007 in Brooksville.  She just got married 9/30/08 and today she shipped out today to  Iraq  for 1 year this is her 3rd tour in Iraq.  In Oct. 2009 she will be out of the service.  Please pray for her safe return.  Thank You,  Cat

10-2-08   Prayers are needed for Harleigh Texter

Oct. 1 around 9 p in our kitchen -- I dropped and shattered (for no reason) a beautiful, Warsteiner beer glass and went into Harleigh's office to find him, at that moment, in acute respiratory distress unlike I've ever seen...  He mouthed "9ll".

Within 3 minutes I had ambulance and fire truck at my door and six people loaded him up and swept the glass from my tile floor.  When I arrived at the huge ER I was greeted by the ambulance drivers who had stayed at the entrance to make sure I was alright.

Harleigh was in a life/death struggle in a private section and I stayed thru the night.  It's his first time in a US hospital.

Oct. 2 He was moved to Room C232A/INTENSIVE CARE at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.  There are no phones; nor visitors.  They are treating him for pneumonia in his lungs.  The head doctor wanted to put him on ventilator today.
Harleigh declined for now.  When I left this evening Harleigh was stabilized with wires, tubes and machines hooked over every inch.  He has one lead doctor and 2 pulmonary specialists that I brought in.  I'll be spending lots of time there for a while...

I ask the universe and you for every bit of prayer and good wishes you can muster and please send him healing energies and envision him healthy, vibrant and whole (with lungs functioning perfectly) -- so we can keep him off the ventilator.

Many thanks
bt

PS:  35 happy years of marriage and wanting more...

From Dave Greenberg I received this message he received from Bob Martin (Wayland)
As for the Martin's, we are making progress. Alice is making good progress, and It looks as if she will be her old self before long. As for me I'm scheduled for a Cyber Knife procedure for prostate cancer next week. This is a new non invasive robotic procedure for certain cancers. I guess you could call it nuclear medicine.
