Our end of the 07/ 08 season S Daytona Rally is done
Thanks to Fred & Ann Stoothoff for their hard work putting
it all together. The theme was German and the food was awesome
Our outgoing Prez Joff Filion brought the German suds to keep the party light
which worked out just fine.
19 coaches came to this end of the season get together, even
with fuel costs approaching $4 per gallon, the club membership did not allow
that to keep them away.
.
The wind was whipping up which made most awnings stay rolled up,
yes and the Florida heat showed it's ugly head so during the hot part of the day
most people either went to the air conditioned flea market or stayed in their
coach. The real associating came in the evenings at dinner.
The rally was held on Mothers day which gave everyone the
opportunity to recognize all the Mothers, Ed & Ann (rallymasters) prepared
corsages for each and the dads had their chance to make a few "brownie points"
Prez Joff was confused for a moment as to what to do with the flowers
thinking it would be a great gift to Ed for putting on such a great rally but
pretty soon he figured it all out and did the right thing for June
.
Frank & Nenie Jenkins came over from Gainesville and we got to see the softer
side of that rough ole sprout
just kidding Frank, we love ya.
Being the last rally of the season, the outgoing president Joff
Filion
had several awards to those that helped make this season a success. Sam
Carson was named volunteer of the year
Joff asked sam to stoop over a bit so he didn't look so short, holding positions of treasurer,
secretary, new letter editor and probably a few other hats, thanks for your
service Sam. The Tesslers were awarded the rally of the year award
for the Lazy Days rally where we had some really well planned games. Games
I mean I think it was called GMC Jeopardy and others. Well done Andy and
Dale. For helping all through the year with rallies, Ed Jones was a shoe
in for the Rallymaster of the year doing 2 back to back rallies and helping with
several others
You deserve more than just a block of wood Ed for your hard work, our gratitude
and love go with this award. The clubs new slate of officers was
voted upon. next was the swearing in ceremony (left to right we have board
members Ken Link, Sam Carson Sec/ tres., Ed Jones, new VP Ed Youngs, new
President Jim Bounds, new board members Ralph Kennerknecht, Bob Heller and
Shirley Williams
The evening meeting ended up with outgoing Prez Joff Filion thanking everyone
for a great rally season and everyone thanking him for his great leadership.
A plaque for his retired gavel was presented
and a new gavel was presented to the incoming prez Jim Bounds
.
In Jim's introduction,
he acknowledged that the rising fuel cost would be a real factor in next years
member participation and vowed to work hard with the board and the next seasons
rallymasters to make the rallies worth spending the gas to come. As he
pointed out, this would be the best way to get the members money's worth out of
the expense. He also offered an idea on how to save money on each rally,
"Fill up the coach fuel tank after each rally, with the fuel increases we are
having, that tank of fuel will be "money in the bank" or in the tank as it were
for the next rally! Just a small joke but in reality this is true and it
will help your fuel tank to stave of surface rust having the tank full-- you may
want to put on a locking gas cap with that much "liquid gold" in your coach
though.
Sunday, the rally broke up after a great breakfast served up by
Fred & Ann Stoothoff, made to order eggs, left over fixings from the Saturday
night dinner and the rest. The rally broke up in just enough time for all
to get away from the fires that popped up in the Daytona/ Volusia County area
that weekend. Yes, we were there but the rally was not effected.
Was a great rally to end the season, there was a great group ,
everyone said fairwell and vowed to do it all again next season. Thanks to
all who came.
