January 2010 Rally (a conjunction rally) Jan 8-10, 2010

A great group of club members braved the cold and made this a fun rally.  Cold doesn't quite describe what we found Friday as all came in.  Below freezing temps-- hey wait, this is not Brookesville, thats next month so why are we down here in the sunny south having to put up with frozen water hoses and wearing all of our clothes at the same time!  It was all good though, old members and new all enjoyed the rally making the tails of our GMC longer and more exciting

There were no takes for a dip in the heated pool with the smoke rising from the water, it just did not seem proper to jump into those waters, heck it was cold!  The awnings covering the slide outs on those behemoth pusher coaches tied up in the Lazy Days rally park being frozen in the out position because of the rain the day before, our little GMC's fired up and pulled away on Sunday while owners of those "big ole things" had rubber hammers breaking up the ice and hair driers thawing out the spring rollers on the slide out awnings!  Made your heart feel good as our vintage GMC's just took the cold in stride.

After Friday nights dinner, Andy and Dale Tessler (rally master of the get together) surprised us all with a game you just don't see every day--- They gathered everyone around a 4' painted wheel with a suspicious stainless steel bowl upside down in the middle.  We were told to make our bets on the "Crab Race" and brother, they weren't kidding!  Hermit crabs under the bowl spring to action as Andy picked up the bowl     and like a pack of stampeeding turtles we all had an awesome time betting on which color the hermit crabs would race to:

There were 4 other clubs meeting together in the huge facility at Lazy Days but of course when our crab races started, there was such a throng of interest the other clubs had to work hard to keep their members from coming over to get a piece of the "action)  3 for 1 odds made this a real exciting bid.      What a great eveing, like I said "you don;t see something like this every day!"  Thanks Dale & Andy for the creative idea.

Dinners were of course well attended and a great time as usual

Saturday came with a great breakfast for all then the usual Tech Session for the guys where we had a great discussion on many issues members were having with their coaches.  If you have not sat in on a Sunshine Statesmen Tech session you are really missing something.  The Gals went at a craft we all were impressed with, painting bird houses         and with the vivid colors they worked with, the finished products were creative and artistic.

So next time someone says to you "Aw got paint a birdhouse" tell them we've been there, done that!

The Saturday night came the big draw, our 3rd annual "GMC jeopardy" game came with the new dimension of a light trigger system to keep us all in line as we played the game.  Categories such as "Early GMC trivia" , "Transmode Trivia" and more made for an awesome game for all GMC enthusiasts.  We learned from the crab races the night before and help this game in a private room to help keep the Winnebago club members at bay

Another hit with this game we all came away with more knowledge on our classic coaches.

What an awesome rally and a great time, again, thanks Andy & Dale Tessler and company for all of the great fun.  It was cold outside but our hearts were warmed with the great times all had at the first rally of 2010 and thanks to all who attended making the rally what it was.
